NA BOYS VARSITY FENCING TEAM TOPPLES UNDEFEATED COLUMBIA HS
Newark Academy Boys Varsity Fencing Team toppled fencing powerhouse Columbia High School 14 vs. 13 at their meet in Livingston on Mon., Feb. 5. Columbia's Boys ranked first overall in the Cetrulo tournament in January, second in the District 3 Championship Feb. 4, and were previously undefeated in regular season meets.

It was a thrilling, neck-and-neck contest up until the last bout, when Bryan Mills of Chatham delivered the winning touch vs. his epee opponent, 5-3, and the Newark Academy Fencing Studio was filled with uproarious cheers.

Excitement was heightened by surprises throughout the meet, such as the three time defeat of Columbia's A Strip foilist Ethan Kresofsky first by Eric Hintz of Basking Ridge, then Zane Grodman of Califon  and finally by Brian Gerrard of Short Hills. Both Zane and Brian fenced an impressive 3-0 against Columbia's expert foil squad.
