NA Faculty and Students Attending National Association of Independent Schools Conferences

A group of Newark Academy faculty and students will travel to Atlanta, GA. from December 8-10, 2016 to attend the 2016 National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) People of Color Conference,"Advancing Human and Civil Rights: Fulfilling the Dream Together," and the 2016 NAIS Student Diversity Leadership Conference, "Dreaming Out loud: Waking Up to a New Era of Civil Rights."
The flagship of the National Association of Independent Schools' commitment to equity and justice in teaching and learning, People of Color Conference (PoCC) equips educators at every level, from teachers to trustees, with knowledge, skills, and experiences to improve and enhance the interracial, interethnic, and intercultural climate in their schools.

Similarly, Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC), a multiracial and multicultural gathering of Upper School student leaders from across the U.S., helps participants develop effective cross-cultural communication skills, and better understand the nature and development of effective strategies for social justice.

Among PoCC workshop presenters is NA's Director of Equity and Inclusion, Candice Powell-Caldwell, who will facilitate a session entitled, "Speak Up, Not Over: Helping White Allies Move Beyond White Fragility to Real Solidarity."
