MS Minutemen Finish Season Undefeated

MS football finishes with 34-12 victory over PDS.
On a perfect fall day at Krueger Field in Princeton, the Minutemen could do no wrong, capping off an undefeated season with a 34-12 victory over the Princeton Day School Panthers. Matt Ciccone ’19 opened the scoring on a punt attempt turned 60-yard touchdown scamper. Sam Lawler ’19 added a two-point conversion, and the Minutemen were off to the races.

On offense and defense, on the ground and through the air, the Middle School gridders of Newark Academy could not be deterred. Matt Ciccone added an additional 50-yard touchdown run, a 20-yard TD reception, and 40-yard touchdown pass to the stat sheet. Sam Lawler put up a 22-yard TD run, 20-yard touchdown pass, and 40-yard reception to the score. Eighth grade tight-end Roman Wright also added a two-point conversion to the scoreline.

The Minutemen held firm on defense holding the Panthers to fewer than 20 yards in the first half. Danny Laks ’19 recovered an early fumble, standout defensive end Spencer Wang ’19 recorded a sack, and sixth-grade defensive back Theo Wright recorded his first career interception.

The decisive victory moved the team to a perfect 5-0 for the season, the first time any Newark Academy football team has finished with an undefeated record in over 20 years.
