2013 Commencement Speaker Announced

Newark Academy is pleased to announce the 2013 commencement speaker. This year, NA will welcome back lawyer, legal crisis manager, consultant, author, weekly political columnist, media commentator and alumnus Lanny J. Davis ’63.
 
Davis counsels individuals, corporations, and others under scrutiny on crisis management and legal issues. His clients have included CEOs, sports celebrities and political leaders. Davis has handled the cases of public figures from Martha Stewart to Dan Snyder, from Whole Foods to Congressman Charlie Rangel.
 
Davis served as special counsel to President Bill Clinton and was a spokesperson for the President and the White House on matters concerning campaign-finance investigations and other legal issues. In 2005, President George W. Bush appointed Davis to serve on the five-member Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, created as part of the 2005 Intelligence Reform Act.
 
Before his tenure as special counsel to President Clinton, Davis was a commercial, antitrust, government contracts and False Claims Act litigator. He has participated in national, state and local politics for 30 years, including three terms on the Democratic National Committee representing the state of Maryland.
 
Davis has written several books and lectured throughout the United States and Europe. His most recent title is Crisis Tales — Five Rules for Coping with Scandal in Business, Politics and Life. His op-ed/analysis pieces have appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post and other national publications. His political column, Purple Nation Weekly, appears regularly on The Hill, The Huffington Post, FoxNews.com, The Daily Caller, and Newsmax.com.

After graduating from Newark Academy, Davis went on to Yale University and Yale Law School.
 
Lanny Davis will deliver his keynote address to the Class of 2013 on Sunday, June 9.
