Second straight Mingus Competition win for Chameleon.
Chameleon, Newark Academy’s top jazz band, earned first place at the national Charles Mingus Festival and Competition, edging out high school jazz bands from across the country. That makes two first-place Mingus titles in a row for Chameleon!

Patrick Peters ’15 (trumpet) won an Outstanding Soloist award and Kevin Jiang ’15 (trombone) earned an Honorable Mention.

Chameleon and the Newark Academy Combo spend three days in New York City at the Manhattan School of Music. The weekend included workshops run by seasoned Mingus musicians and educators, a full day of competition and several special concerts.
