Brendan James ’14 and Greta Skagerlind ’14 accepted their Scholastic Gold Medals at Carnegie Hall on June 6. Their works were among 1,700 pieces chosen for Gold and Silver recognition from 255,000 Scholastic Art and Writing Competition entries nationwide. The ceremony featured prominent speakers, including First Lady Michelle Obama, who addressed the winners by videotape.

Greta’s graphic design piece, Cut and Dry, is on display at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons The New School for Design. Brendan’s photograph, Everglades Anhinga was displayed at the Pratt Institute’s Pratt Manhattan Gallery. Selected works from the Art.Write.Now Exhibit will tour major U.S. cities for the next two years, beginning with Washington D.C. in July.

Although James Blume ’19 was unable to attend the Carnegie Hall ceremony, his Gold Medal-winning short story, Are Rabbits’ Feet Really Lucky? is on display on Kindle at the Art.Write.Now Exhibition.

Congratulations national gold medalists!
