Newark Academy Sweeps Awards at Colonial Hills Conference Coaches Meeting
The Player-of-the-Year and the Coach-of-the-Year awards for the 2008-2009 Colonial Hills Conference (CHC) basketball season both belong to Newark Academy. Andrew DelColle, NA's latest member of the 1000 point club, was chosen by the CHC hoops coaches as their choice as player of the year. DelColle was recognized not only for his considerable scoring ability, but also for his all-around rugged play throughout the season.
Thanks in part to the play of DelColle, head coach Jim Stoeckel was chosen by his peers as the 2009 CHC coach of the year. Coach Stoeckel led his squad to the 2008-2009 conference championship with an overall record of 17-10 and a conference record of 12-2. This was a considerable achievement considering that the Minutemen returned only DelColle from last year's team and graduated five senior starters. This was the fourth consecutive conference championship for the Minutemen and their fifth in the last six years. Congratulations to both Andrew and Coach Stoeckel for their well deserved recognition by the Colonial Hills Conference!
