Spanish Immersion Guest Siblings Experience America, Make New Friends at NA

From September 4th through the 18th, twenty nine students and two faculty members from the CPI do Toural school in Pontevedra, Spain were hosted by NA families during the concluding part of the 2015 Spanish Immersion Experience.

This past June, under the leadership of María Teresa McNeilly-Anta, Director of Immersion Experiences, and Señor Gómez NA students were hosted by the CPI do Toural school community (see their blog journal here). In addition to the faculty, this year’s group benefited from the assistance of two NA alumni – Sydney Hershman ‘11 and Robert Kwiatkowski ’13.

Now in it’s 7th year, the Spanish Immersion Program provides NA students an exciting and often life-changing, off-campus educational experience that inspires engagement and broadens perspectives.

Our Spanish guest siblings attended the Welcome Back BBQ, visited Princeton University and the nearby Grounds for Sculpture, and participated in a traditional Thanksgiving cooking class. Highlights from the weekends with NA host families, they attended tennis matches at the US Open, New York Jets football games, visited the Jersey Shore and Six Flags Great Adventure, and baked chocolate chip cookies.

Niki Lipkin, mother of Elijah ’17 and host to one of the Spaniards, summed it up best for everyone by saying, “I know that this experience will be a gift to our entire family.”
