The first step is to submit Part I (Family Information) Part II (Student Questionnaire) and Part III (Parent Questionnaire) of the application. The 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 Final Transcripts and $85 application fee should also be included. We encourage you to submit your forms as early as possible as day visits are limited, and our schedule fills quickly.
Once we have received Part I and Part II of the application, a member of the admission staff will contact you to arrange the student’s required interview. If a full-day visit appointment is available, the applicant will join a current student host for classes and lunch. The interview will take place at some point during the student’s visit, and they will also be asked to complete a writing sample. A parent visit with a member of the admission staff is optional, and should be scheduled when arranging the applicant’s visit/interview. Due to the large volume of applications received, day visit slots fill quickly; students who would like to take advantage of this opportunity are encouraged to apply early.
Recommendations from four teachers are required for each applicant. These should be completed by the student’s current English, Math, and Science teachers. The fourth recommendation should be submitted by another teacher of the student’s choice. If an applicant has the same teacher for more than one subject, the teacher must complete one form for each individual subject. Newark Academy recommends that families wait until December to ask teachers about submitting forms so that they have the time to get to know your child.
Due: December 10, 2018 (2016-2017 & 2017-2018 Final Transcripts) Due: February 4, 2019 (2018-2019 First Marking Period Transcript)
Each applicant must arrange for an official copy of his/her school transcript to be sent to Newark Academy. Parents must download, print and sign the “Transcript Release” form give it to the applicant’s current school. The school, in turn, should send the student’s full transcript including any standardized testing to Newark Academy. The transcript must include at least one marking period from the current (2018-2019) academic year. Please note: these forms must be submitted to the admission office by the deadline.
Due: Scores must be submitted prior to February 4, 2019
All applicants must take an admission test during the current academic year. Newark Academy applicants can take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) on several Saturdays from October through February (visit www.iseetest.org for detailed information about testing). We will also accept the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT); visit www.ssat.org for details. If you would like your child to take the SSAT in lieu of the ISEE you must arrange for his/her scores to be sent to Newark Academy prior to the February 4 deadline. There is no need for an applicant to take both of these tests. The ISEE and SSAT require a three-week advance registration, so please plan ahead. (ISEE School Code: 310915, SSAT School Code: 5296)
