The 2017 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences Was Awarded to NA Alumnus Richard H. Thaler ’63

It is with great pride that we share the news that Newark Academy alumnus Richard Thaler of the Class of 1963 was awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. Dr. Thaler, who was born in East Orange, is a professor at the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago. The Nobel committee, announcing the award in Stockholm on Monday, noted that Dr. Thaler is a pioneer in applying psychology to economic behavior and in shedding light on how people make economic decisions in consistently irrational ways. Dr. Thaler’s Nobel award is the first for an alumnus of any independent school in New Jersey and we are proud his accomplishments and much-deserved recognition.
