    Academics

    • Newark Academy was the first school in NJ to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma. In May 2019, 155 students completed a total of 473 IB examinations. 173 students sat for a total of 218 Advanced Placement tests. 47 members of the Class of 2020 are pursuing the full IB diploma. Approximately 90 percent of the Class of 2020 is enrolled in at least one IB course.
    • NA offers preparation for 10 AP courses.
    • The Immersion Requirement is the first of its kind. Upper School students are required to engage in deep cultural or environmental exploration, typically for two to three weeks.
    • NA offers nine opportunities for off-campus study, across the country and around the world. 
    • The final two weeks of the school year are designated for intensive learning. Students in grades 6-8 engage in Capstone Experiences, students in grades 9-11 take one intensive June Term course that combines intellectual rigor with the ingenuity of focused, experiential learning, allowing the student to pursue a passion or discover a new interest.
