  • Does Newark Academy offer financial aid and scholarships?

Yes. Newark Academy provides more than $4M in need-based financial aid annually to ensure that Newark Academy remains accessible and affordable to families with varying financial circumstances.
  • What type of financial aid does Newark Academy offer?

All financial aid at Newark Academy is need-based. NA does not offer merit-based scholarships. Need is defined as the difference between the cost of attendance and the family’s ability to pay, which is calculated through CLARITY, a third-party provider. To be eligible for financial aid, parents must complete a financial aid application and provide financial documentation through CLARITY.
  • When are tuition payments due and are there payment options available?

All Newark Academy families must create accounts and make payments via FACTS.
  • What are the terms of the financial aid program?

Financial aid is awarded annually and families seeking financial aid must apply each year. Misrepresentation or failure to disclose completely all information will result in the loss of financial aid.

Returning families receiving financial aid will be given first priority when allocating awards for next school year. Adherence to deadlines is essential because funds are limited and they will be allocated to other families if documents are not submitted by the stated deadlines.
  • What if I am a single parent?

Unless a parent is deceased, Newark Academy expects that both biological parents contribute to a student’s tuition expenses. Therefore, financial information is required from both biological parents. Financial aid may not be granted if data from only one biological parent is provided. If one parent is not in contact with the student and has no role in the student’s life, Newark Academy will request the custodial parent complete a waiver as part of the financial aid application and awarding process. If a biological parent does not complete the financial aid process, they will not be given access to or receive any information from Newark Academy about their child.
  • What if I am remarried?

The income and assets of stepparents will be taken into consideration when determining a student’s financial aid grant. Newark Academy will also take into consideration the stepparent’s financial obligation to his, her, or their own biological children. We reserve the right to decline aid packages to families who do not provide income and asset information of stepparents.
  • What if I or my spouse do not work?

Newark Academy will impute wages of $30,000 annually for any non-working parent who has a child over the age of five. Consideration is made in the case of extenuating circumstances, for example, if the non-working spouse is responsible for a special needs child and/or elderly parent(s). All extenuating circumstances must be documented, in writing, at the time of application.
  • Do I need to apply for financial aid each year?

Yes. Newark Academy requires that the Clarity financial aid application is submitted annually for all families requesting consideration for need-based financial aid. All applicants must provide all supporting documents directly to Clarity by the stated deadlines. Financial aid applications received after the deadline may not be considered. Completed applications are reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee. Awards are granted in the spring and are for one year only.
  • What other fees do I need to pay?

Newark Academy has made the monitoring and limiting of costs beyond tuition an important institutional priority. NA provides proportional aid on all required items, including lunch and technology fees, books, Immersion and Capstone experiences. For non-required items, the school’s budget has been expanded in order to absorb incidental costs traditionally borne by families. Each student receiving financial aid will receive an allotment from NA’s discretionary budget to use at their discretion for other school-related expenses. For more information about managing costs beyond tuition, please see our Financial Aid Guidelines.
  • Do families have to purchase textbooks and other course materials?

Textbooks and other course materials cost approximately $500 - $750 per year. For families receiving financial aid, proportional aid is provided for textbooks and other course materials.
  • What about athletic team apparel?

Athletic team gear costs approximately $100 per sport. For families receiving financial aid, proportional aid is provided for athletic team gear and equipment.
  • How do students get to school? Is free school busing available?

Newark Academy welcomes students from more than 91 towns in Bergen, Essex, Morris, Hudson, Hunterdon, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, and Union counties of New Jersey. Transportation is provided without cost for Newark Academy students living in Newark, Irvington, Orange, East Orange and Hillside, which is subject to change based on student population. Transportation to/from many other towns is available through Newark Academy's busing partner-of-choice, and individual transportation contracts can range from $4,500-$7,500. Contracting for busing is exclusively between the families and the busing partner-of-choice. Parents who choose to send their child to Newark Academy may be eligible to receive a partial reimbursement of up to $1,022 from their resident school district to cover part of the cost of providing their own transportation to school (visit here to learn more).
