We offer a variety of opportunities for families to get to know Newark Academy before and during the admission process. Please click here for an overview of our upcoming events.
Newark Academy enrolls approximately 670 students per year. The average class size is 14 — small enough for students and teachers to really hear, value, and know each other — and there are no classes larger than 18 students.
The 2023-24 tuition is $48,880 and we have $1,820 in required lunch and technology fees. Information on managing costs beyond tuition and fees may be found here.
Families should apply a year prior to their desired enrollment. Newark Academy accepts applications annually between September and December for those interested in enrolling the following fall. Click here for specifics on our admission timeline.
Yes. Newark Academy provides more than $4M in need-based financial aid annually to ensure that Newark Academy remains accessible and affordable to families with varying financial circumstances.
All financial aid at Newark Academy is need-based. NA does not offer merit-based scholarships. Need is defined as the difference between the cost of attendance and the family’s ability to pay, which is calculated through CLARITY, a third-party provider. To be eligible for financial aid, parents must complete a financial aid application and provide financial documentation through CLARITY.
Financial aid is awarded annually and families seeking financial aid must apply each year. Misrepresentation or failure to disclose completely all information will result in the loss of financial aid.
Returning families receiving financial aid will be given first priority when allocating awards for next school year. Adherence to deadlines is essential because funds are limited and they will be allocated to other families if documents are not submitted by the stated deadlines.
Unless a parent is deceased, Newark Academy expects that both biological parents contribute to a student’s tuition expenses. Therefore, financial information is required from both biological parents. Financial aid may not be granted if data from only one biological parent is provided. If one parent is not in contact with the student and has no role in the student’s life, Newark Academy will request the custodial parent complete a waiver as part of the financial aid application and awarding process. If a biological parent does not complete the financial aid process, they will not be given access to or receive any information from Newark Academy about their child.
The income and assets of stepparents will be taken into consideration when determining a student’s financial aid grant. Newark Academy will also take into consideration the stepparent’s financial obligation to his, her, or their own biological children. We reserve the right to decline aid packages to families who do not provide income and asset information of stepparents.
Newark Academy will impute wages of $30,000 annually for any non-working parent who has a child over the age of five. Consideration is made in the case of extenuating circumstances, for example, if the non-working spouse is responsible for a special needs child and/or elderly parent(s). All extenuating circumstances must be documented, in writing, at the time of application.
Yes. Newark Academy requires that the Clarity financial aid application is submitted annually for all families requesting consideration for need-based financial aid. All applicants must provide all supporting documents directly to Clarity by the stated deadlines. Financial aid applications received after the deadline may not be considered. Completed applications are reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee. Awards are granted in the spring and are for one year only.
Newark Academy has made the monitoring and limiting of costs beyond tuition an important institutional priority. NA provides proportional aid on all required items, including lunch and technology fees, books, Immersion and Capstone experiences. For non-required items, the school’s budget has been expanded in order to absorb incidental costs traditionally borne by families. Each student receiving financial aid will receive an allotment from NA’s discretionary budget to use at their discretion for other school-related expenses. For more information about managing costs beyond tuition, please see our Financial Aid Guidelines.
Textbooks and other course materials cost approximately $500 - $750 per year. For families receiving financial aid, proportional aid is provided for textbooks and other course materials.
Athletic team gear costs approximately $100 per sport. For families receiving financial aid, proportional aid is provided for athletic team gear and equipment.
Newark Academy welcomes students from more than 91 towns in Bergen, Essex, Morris, Hudson, Hunterdon, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, and Union counties of New Jersey. Frequently Asked Questions For International Prospectives
All international students must submit the same Online Admission Form and materials as a domestic applicant. Students currently living outside the Northern New Jersey area will be able to conduct the required student interview via online video conferencing.
As a day school, Newark Academy does not provide housing or make residential arrangements for students. Newark Academy views education as a partnership between school and family and all enrolled students must live with at least one parent, immediate family member, or legal guardian.
Newark Academy does not provide ESL support. The expectation is that English is read and spoken fluently by all students, and, consequently, testing of English as a non-primary language is not part of the Newark Academy application process such as TOEFL, SLEP or other tests.
