The first step in applying to Newark Academy is to complete our Online Admission Form (OAF). Our OAF opens in early September for the following academic year.

Newark Academy's main entry points are 6th Grade and 9th Grade. We also accept applications for entry in Grade 7, 8, 10, and 11. We intentionally grow moderately in 7th and 8th grade, and a placement in 10th or 11th grade is dependent on a spot becoming available.

• December 1 is the deadline to submit the Online Admission Form, our application for Admission.
• December 15 is the deadline to submit Prior Year Transcripts.
• January 12 is the deadline to submit all Supplemental Materials (current year grades, teacher recommendations, Candidate and Parent Conversations, and standardized test scores).
• January 12 is also the deadline for families who are applying for Financial Aid to submit the Clarity Financial Aid Application.

Admission decisions for the 2026-2027 School Year will be released on February 20, 2026 and the deadline for Enrollment is March 6, 2026.

• Newark Academy uses Clarity for their Financial Aid application and applications must be submitted by January 12.
• Financial Aid decisions are communicated alongside our admission decisions, which will be released on February 20. For more information on Financial Aid at Newark Academy, please see: Tuition & Financial Aid.

• Applicants for Grades 6–11 are required to take either the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) or the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). Candidates only need to take one exam, and Newark Academy does not have a preference on which test a candidate takes. 
• Please note that advanced registration is required. For registration information, refer to ssat.org or iseetest.org.
• Newark Academy is pleased to offer the ISEE on campus this winter. Registration can be made through ISEE.

Testing is an important piece of our holistic review process as it helps us understand and assess academic readiness and match, along with the transcript and recommendations. We want to make sure that NA is the right match academically, but we’re also focused on how students will contribute to the community beyond the classroom. For reference, our average test score for admitted students is around the 70th percentile.

All tests taken on or before the deadline of January 12, 2026 will be accepted.

You track your progress throughout the application process within our online application portal and by checking the ‘Candidate Checklist.’ The Candidate Checklist tracks the status of all required steps, though we do ask that you allow 24-48 hours for a document to be processed and reflected within the Checklist.

Applicants may link supplementary materials via the Online Admission Form. Supplementary materials are not required but encouraged to showcase skill level in the arts, athletics, or other areas. If you wish to have a coach, teacher or mentor submit a supplementary recommendation please have them email it to admission@newarka.edu and it will be added to the Candidate’s file.

Newark Academy receives roughly 700 applications for approximately 120 new students.

• Tuition for the 2025-2026 school year is $53,120 and we have $1,820 in required lunch and technology fees. 
• In terms of additional expenses, Newark Academy has made the monitoring and limiting of costs for non-required items an important institutional priority. The school’s budget has been expanded in order to absorb incidental costs traditionally borne by families, such as entrance fees at school-wide events, and has reduced the number of fundraising efforts done by school groups. That said, some additional expenses that families can expect include transportation, books, Capstone and Immersion experiences, Athletic webstores and pre-season travel. 
• For students who receive financial aid, Newark Academy is proud to provide proportional aid on all required expenses. 

All international students must submit the same Online Admission Form and materials as a domestic applicant. Students currently living outside the Northern New Jersey area will be able to conduct the required student interview via online video conferencing.

Newark Academy does not accept mid-year applications.

As a day school, Newark Academy does not provide housing or make residential arrangements for students. Newark Academy views education as a partnership between school and family and all enrolled students must live with at least one parent, immediate family member, or legal guardian.

No, Newark Academy does not issue I-20 student visas.

Newark Academy does not provide ESL support. The expectation is that English is read and spoken fluently by all students, and, consequently, testing of English as a non-primary language is not part of the Newark Academy application process such as TOEFL, SLEP or other tests. Students must submit a score for either the SSAT or ISEE exam.

No, we do not offer financial aid to international students. Students and families applying for financial aid must be paying U.S. taxes.

No, we do not set quotas. However, we do look for diversity within our international and overall student population, and we welcome applications from all students.
