AI in the Classroom
Across disciplines, Newark Academy teachers integrate AI in ways that reinforce learning rather than replace it. Students explore what AI can do — and what it cannot — while developing the judgment, creativity and ethical awareness that remain uniquely human. The examples below offer a snapshot of how AI is thoughtfully woven into classroom experiences across divisions.
In Fall 2025, students in the IB Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course used AI as a creative and analytical tool to design a secondary school model for the modern world. Grounded in questions about how knowledge is constructed and evaluated, students developed their own educational plan then used AI image-generation tools to turn their vision into “reality.”
In a Middle School English class, students reimagined the book, The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt, for a contemporary audience by developing a new title and designing a modern book jacket using AI image design tools. As they identified the novel’s essential themes and character dynamics, the students translated those elements into a compelling visual that would resonate with readers. The exercise challenged students to analyze how design choices influence meaning and audience perception.
