Physical activity, skill development, sportsmanship and teamwork are the corner stones of NA Middle School’s athletic philosophy. These elements are so important to the development of young adolescents that participation in an athletic program every season (fall, winter, spring) is required of all Newark Academy Middle School students and is part of the Middle School curriculum. The final class period of each day, Monday through Thursday is designated for sports teams practices and students receive an evaluation and grade at the end of year season.
NA Middle School students are encouraged to step out of their comfort zone to learn a new sport sometime during their Middle School years. To provide all students with an appropriate level of skill development, Middle School teams generally offer A and B teams. The A teams in each sport are generally best for experienced student-athletes interested in interscholastic competition and the opportunity to prepare for high school athletics. B team student-athletes have the opportunity to hone the fundamental skills, rules and strategies for the sport they choose each season. NA’s Middle School B teams typically compete only a few times each season, while the A teams have a full slate of scheduled games or matches.
