Spring 2026: Season in Review

Newark Academy athletics wrapped up another monumental spring season. With several new varsity head coaches leading the way, the Minutemen continued to build on the department's tradition of excellence. The spring teams combined for a 0.720 winning percentage, the highest mark for Newark Academy's spring programs in more than 25 years.


Boys’ Tennis
     Overall Record: 28-2
     Team Achievements: Essex County Tournament Champions, Super Essex Conference American Division Champions, NJSIAA Non-Public State Champions, Newark Academy Tennis Invitational Champions. Ranked #1 in the state. Super Essex Conference and NJ.com Team of the Year.
     Individual Achievements: Andrew Zielinski ’27, Caden Millerman ’28 and Neev Rana ’28 all advanced to the quarterfinal round in the NJSIAA State Singles Tournament. This was the first time in 30 years that Newark Academy had three players achieve this feat. 

Boys’ Golf
     Overall Record: 14-2
     Team Achievements: Mountain Ridge Invitational champions, Blue Devil Invitational runner-up, Essex County Tournament - Third Place.

Girls’ Golf
     Overall Record: 10-0
     Team Achievements: Bi-County Conference champions, Mountain Ridge Invitational champions and Essex County Tournament runner-up. 
     Individual Achievements: Anya Balakumaran ’27 placed third, Sophia Ha ’26 placed fourth and Ashlyn Wolfe ’29 placed sixth at the Essex/Union Tournament. 

Boys’ Track & Field
     Overall Record: 8-0
     Team Achievements: NJSIAA Non-Public B State Champions, Super Essex Conference Liberty Division Champions 
     Broken Records: Wynston Ditchfield-Agboh ’27: 100 Meter (10.89) and 200 Meter (22.97). 
     Individual Achievements: Connor Polen committed to running track at Massachusetts Institute of Technology next year. Wynston Ditchfield-Agboh, Connor Polen, Kiran Adams ’27, the 4x400 relay team (Arun Damodaran ’27, Harcourt Lucius II ’28, Connor Polen and Jordan Hall ’26) and Naveen McNeal ’26 qualified for and competed at the Meet of Champions. 

Boys’ Lacrosse
     Overall Record: 11-7
     Individual Achievements: Luke Betlow ’26 became the program’s all-time leading scorer (212 goals), Alec Marchand ’26 became all-time career saves leader (541 saves) and Zuva Chakabva ’28 and Ethan Suwankosai ’28 became all-time career faceoff leaders (234) and (266).

Girls’ Lacrosse
     Overall Record: 10-7
     Team Achievements: Super Essex Conference Colonial Division champions 
     Individual Achievements: Chloe Rosner ’26 became the program’s all-time leading scorer with 282 goals and the program’s all-time draw control leader with 275. 

Girls’ Track & Field
     Overall Record: 8-0
     Team Achievements: Super Essex Conference Liberty Division champions
     Broken Records: Eve Collins-Siegel ’27: Discus (103’ 5”) and javelin (113’ 1”).
     Individual Achievements: Eve Collins-Siegel qualified for the Meet of Champions. 

Baseball
     Overall Record: 10-12
     Team Achievements: Essex County Invitational Tournament Champions

Softball
     Overall Record: 9-12
     Individual Achievements: Eliza Chiu ’27 surpassed 100 career strikeouts.
