Alex Kotzen ’19 to play D-I Tennis at Columbia

Alex Kotzen’s ’19 career has already taken him all around the globe. The next stop will be a bit closer to home. Alex is enrolled at Columbia University for Fall 2019 and will compete on the Lions Division I men’s tennis team.
Alex played intermittently for the Minutemen as he also spent time overseas to hone his tennis skills, starting in Middle School when he lived and trained at a tennis academy for a year in eighth grade.

“If you had told me 5 years ago that I would be in this position today, I wouldn't have believed you,” Alex said.

But thanks to his time at NA, Alex has not only been prepared to get to the college level, but succeed when he gets there.

“At Newark Academy, I have had to be more or less a college athlete,” Alex said. “I train for hours playing, doing fitness, and trying to maintain my body after school every day after a rigorous day of classes. Time management is the biggest part of being a college athlete and NA has taught me that.”

Alex was named First Team All-SEC American Division and Second Team Non-Public B, helping Newark Academy win the State Sectional, State Final and Tournament of Champions in 2016.
