New Head Coach of the Varsity Field Hockey Team

The Athletics Department is excited to announce that Noelle Shirey will be the new head coach of the varsity field hockey program. Noelle joined the NA community in July 2018 as the assistant director for alumni annual giving in the Office of Institutional Advancement and was the head coach for the junior varsity field hockey team in the fall. This spring, she is the head coach for the girls’ junior varsity lacrosse team.
Coach Shirey is an accomplished athlete and came to NA with previous coaching experience at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) in Madison (her alma mater) and the Academy of St. Elizabeth’s in Morristown. As an athlete, she captained the field hockey team at FDU and was the school’s nominee for NCAA Female Athlete of the Year. As a lacrosse player at FDU, she was the 2018 Middle Atlantic Freedom Conference Offensive Player of the Year, 2018 most valuable player, First Team Regional All-American, First Team All-Conference, and a three-year team captain. She also received the Wade Watkins Award for “enthusiasm, commitment and dedication to excellence” and the Joan Desilets Award for “dedication and commitment to the athletic department.”

Coach Shirey is eager to get started and says “I am more than excited to take over the [field hockey] program. I can't wait to build on the foundation that has been laid and add my personal touch that I believe will help the program grow and further develop the student-athletes.” She is excited about the distribution of talent throughout the program and across grade levels, and sees a high ceiling for the team. In her first few practices she wants to “quickly instill more knowledge of and passion for the game and work on stick skills and game sense.” She believes this will allow players to “accomplish the small goals as a team, see a better end result, and enjoy working together every day.”

Before school ends, there will be a meeting for Coach Shirey and the field hockey players, as well as an additional opportunity, before the start of the season, for parents to meet Coach Shirey.
