  • NA Hires Bryan Tavares as Head Baseball Coach

    The Newark Academy Athletics Department is excited to announced that Bryan Tavares is the new baseball coach.
    Coach Tavares, who played collegiate baseball at Emory University and the University of Richmond, comes to Newark Academy from Oratory Prep, where he was most recently a varsity assistant coach. Prior to coaching at Oratory, Coach Tavares led the Great Britain under 15 National Team to a silver medal at the European Championship Qualifier tournament in Hunenburg, Switzerland. Coach Tavares has also coached at the In the Zone Baseball & Softball Training Academy and for New York Empire Baseball’s travel team. 
    Coach Tavares said he is “looking forward to the opportunity to coach at Newark Academy and to build on the school’s well-established track record of baseball excellence.”

  • NA Boys’ Cross Country Wins Non-Public B Title

    Newark Academy put together a full team effort to win the NJSIAA Boys Non-Public B cross country Championship at Holmdel Park.
    The Minutemen had five runners finish in the top 18, earning them a team score of 54 to defeat Bishop Eustace (103 points) and Montclair-Kimberley (156). The top five NA runners finished within 34 seconds of each other to defeat the favored Bishop Eustace.

    “We really emphasize having them train and run together at practice,” Newark Academy Head Coach Sarah Guelich told NJ.com. “We like them running together in meets with the knowledge that they’re going to do better and run stronger with each other.”

  • NA Boys' Cross Country win NJISAA Prep B Cross Country Championships

    The Boys’ Cross Country Team won the team title of the NJISAA Prep B Championships for the first time in a decade by a convincing 35 points.
