Nancy Celente, Chair of the Science Department, joined the NA community in 1987 and has experienced the continued growth of NA and the wide range of programs offered.
Most recently, Nancy witnessed first-hand how the Annual Fund completely transformed the Upper School’s science labs and classrooms. “The new labs have given all of our students access to additional spaces for independent research. Students in the International Baccalaureate Program have used the cell culture hoods and the prep room spaces for their individual investigations,” Nancy said.
Thanks to the state-of-the-art equipment, Nancy and her colleagues have been able to incorporate new experiments into lessons. "Students can leave experiments set up for long term data collection, which allows them to collect a slew of new information, aiding research and most important, enhancing the learning experience."
The new science labs were made possible because of Annual Fund support.
Why the Annual Fund Matters to Faculty
Newark Academy maintains smaller class sizes (13:1 student/teacher ratio) than other schools of similar enrollment thanks to the financial support the Annual Fund provides.
Giving to the Annual Fund allows teachers to create innovative lessons and empowers students to reach their potential.

"When the students saw the new space on the first day of school in September, there were lots of open mouths and gasps, with a lot of ‘this is amazing!'"
