Middle School Swim Team Raised Funds for Newark Children to Promote Water Safety

Every Newark Academy experience provides ample opportunities for students to develop a passion for learning, a standard of excellence and a generosity of spirit. And, members of the Middle School swim demonstrated their commitment to the Newark community – NA’s founding city – by raising $4,000 to the West Essex YMCA for their free weeklong Safety Around Water week. Additionally, they donated more than 450 swim caps and 250 pairs of goggles to the City of Newark Recreation Department. “You are our partner in keeping children safe, we could not provide the lessons or teach the skills without your generous gift. Please express our gratitude to all those that participated in your event and made this gift possible,” said Executive Director of the West Essex YMCA Helen Flores. Aquatics Supervisor for the City of Newark Catherine Lenix-Hooker echoed Helen’s sentiments, saying “My staff and I were overwhelmed when you drove up with 10 bags of these much-needed items. These gifts will make such a difference in the lives of those youth whose families cannot afford to purchase this kind of aquatic attire/gear in order for their children to enjoy our swimming pools.”
