TYLER KUNG ’19 REPRESENTING NA COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM AT OVERLOOK FOUNDATION

Newark Academy’s Community Service Program will once again be represented on Overlook Foundation’s Junior Board in a leadership position. Tyler Kung ’19 — a board member last year — will be a co-chair for the 2018-19 school year, and he hopes to pass on his joy for the program down to the next class.

“I had a great experience last year,” Tyler said. “I learned a lot. I met a lot of great people and I want this year to have the same experiences of meeting people that are professionals in the field of science and medicine while helping others.”
Last year, students raised close to $12,000 through their fundraising effort, and the Overlook Foundation Board offered a challenge match that reached close to $60,000. Through the Junior Board and the hard work of students, Overlook Foundation ended the year with a grant of roughly $72,000 to benefit brain tumor and movement disorders patients and their families.

Overlook Foundation is just one of the ways Tyler has given back to the community while at NA.

“I’m actually heavily involved in community service through NA. I do over 100 hours each year,” Tyler said. “Through Newark Academy, I’ve had my chance to try my hand at a variety of community service opportunities and I enjoy working with kids and working in hospitals.”
