William Corprew ’20 and Sophia Ludtke ’20 win Law Day Award

William Corprew ’20 and Sophia Ludtke ’20 won the Law Day 2018 Competition held by the Association of Black Women Lawyers of New Jersey. With the theme of Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom, focusing on the case of Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v. Sawyer, William won the poster award for demonstration while Sophia won the essay award.

“The most difficult thing was trying to find a concept because a poster board is usually very straight forward, but I wanted to do something that was unique to me.” William said. He took newspapers clippings and made it “pop out” with a welding mask. Sophia wrote an essay thinking about the case and its broader implications.
The two did the assignment for Benson Hawk’s AP US History class last year and were encouraged to submit their work, resulting in an award in the late summer.
“I wasn’t expecting it,” William said. “I sent it in and moved on and got back from Spain to a plaque in the mail and it was a nice surprise.”
