NA Jazz Director Julius Tolentino receives The New Jersey Jazz Education Achievement Award

Julius Tolentino is not only a talented Jazz musician who has been in the New York Jazz scene for more than 20 years, but a galvanizing educator. Working at Newark Academy since 2006, Julius has been recognized for his educational efforts as a recipient of the New Jersey Association for Jazz Education (NJAJE) Achievement Award.

The NJAJE states that the award goes to "a New Jersey jazz educator who has demonstrated the highest standards of teaching excellence and dedication to the jazz education community."

"I am honored and humbled to receive this year’s Jazz Education Achievement Award from the NJAJE," Julius said. "As a high school student I was fortunate to be involved in Jazz Regions and All-States, as well as the state festivals because I had an awesome middle school and high school band director. This award has been given to several heavyweight Jazz Educators in NJ, and I hope to do them and NJAJE proud with my continued efforts.”
The award is presented annually in November at the State Jazz Conference and again at the final concert of the NJ All State Jazz Ensemble and NJ Honors Jazz Choir at NJPAC. A commemorative plaque is presented to each recipient.

Julius said he will be accepting the award on behalf of his parents and all the students at NA that allow him to do what he loves.
