NA Girls’ Swimming Wins Essex County Championship

The Newark Academy girls’ swimming avenged its only loss of the season to edge out Montclair and win the Super Essex Conference (SEC) Championship for the first time in school history on January 21, 2019.

“We had a good meet on Thursday against Montclair where we lost by four,” Newark Academy coach Billy Blomn, said according to NJ.com. “We had some fast swimmers there and won seven or eight of the events in that meet. We knew with the scoring system things would be interesting today.”

The point system for the SEC Championship are different of that than a dual meet, and relays are where teams can get the most points. The Minutemen were propelled to victory by a true team effort, not winning a single individual event, but winning two of the three relays.

The SEC started the boys’ swimming Championship in 1965. The girls’ was started in 1974.
