NA’s Leah Shiff '22 Makes All-State Symphonic Band and Orchestra

This past Saturday, freshman French horn player Leah Shiff auditioned for and was accepted into the All-State Symphonic Band and Orchestra. In order to qualify for this audition, she successfully auditioned for the North Jersey Region Band and Orchestra and then competed against 9th through 12th grade horn players to play at the state level.

The Band will perform this spring, while the Orchestra will perform next fall at the teacher's convention in Atlantic City and at NJPAC.

To qualify, musicians must memorize all 12 major scales, a chromatic scale demonstrating the range of the instrument, and a difficult prepared solo. They must also sight-read a 16-measure computer generated piece of music which they have only seen for 30 seconds before playing.
