Ceramic Artist Bruce Dehnert to Display Work at Newark Academy

The pottery and sculpture of award-wining artist, Bruce Dehnert will be on display in The David Teiger ’47 Gallery for the Studio Arts at Newark Academy from April 3 – 29, 2019 with an opening reception will be held on Friday, April 5 at 3:00 p.m. Fragmented, architectural-like structures support allegorical figures that call to mind another time and place. The warm, red earthenware heightens the presence of these large pieces that are visually textured and complex. “In this exhibition, the architectural-like structures serve to both support the figures and represent narrative as a construct,” says Dehnert. “I believe that creativity and art making can be greatly enhanced by forming connections between the artist and pretty much everything and everyone else out there who happen to somehow wander into the artist’s orbit.”
Dehnert is the recipient of myriad of national and international awards. His work is held in a number of museums and collections including the Crocker Museum, the Yixing Museum of Ceramic Art, The New Dowse Museum and The White House. An active writer, he has had articles published in numerous journals, as well as his book, Simon Leach’s Pottery Handbook. In 2017, Dehnert was named to the International Academy of Ceramics, and he is, at present, the Head of Ceramics at The Peters Valley School of Craft in Layton NJ.

In addition to sharing his work with the Newark Academy Community, Dehnert will spend several days in the art studios conducting workshops and offering feedback to the visual arts students.
