Newark Academy Hosts Inaugural New Jersey Students of Color Conference

Newark Academy will host the first New Jersey Students of Color Conference (NJSCC) on May 4, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Newark Academy.

Organized by students, for students, the NJSCC aims to offer a unique setting that centers around the experiences of self-identified students of color, similar to the National Association of Independent School People of Color Conference. Upper School students of color from regional independent schools in northern New Jersey are invited to gather and connect with one another to further social dialogue both within their respective communities and across institutions. The chosen theme of the inaugural conference is “Fulfilling the Possibility of Solidarity among Communities of Color.” This theme acknowledges the many challenges posed by the complexities of identities that are a source of strength in communities of color, but also the sites of many fissures. Space is limited so please complete the registration form by April 26.

The agenda of this daylong conference will engage attendees in student-led conversations and dialogues, affinity groups and planning for future meetings.
