Chameleon Garners Awards at Essentially Ellington

Newark Academy’s renowned jazz band Chameleon was once again selected as one of the top 15 jazz bands in the nation to play at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 24th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band and Competition, which was May 9-11 in New York City. The band won a section award for outstanding rhythm section and honorable mention for piano. Vikram Bala ’20 won an award for Outstanding Bass and Michael Wang ’20 won for Outstanding Alto Sax, while Alan Lin ’19 received Honorable Mention on Clarinet and Samantha Powell ’19 received Honorable Mention for Vocals.
