NA Girls’ Track and Field Team Wins Super Essex Conference

Newark Academy girls’ track and field team won the Super Essex Conference on May 10, 2019. Together, they scored 145.5 points, besting Malcom X Shabazz High School (131), Cedar Grove (53), Glen Ridge (43), University (19), Technology (16), Immaculate Conception Montclair (15), St. Vincent Academy (12.5) and Weequahic (10). 
 
“It was an exciting day,” Coach Tim McCall said. “Like the boys victory last Monday, we were propelled by both a few athletes who scored first or second in several events and many more girls who stepped up and scored in third through sixth places.”


Giulia Socolof ’19 won the 400 Intermediate Hurdles broke the school record she set in winning the triple jump by jumping 34 feet 4 inches and scored 100 High Hurdles (third place); 4x400 (second place). Kayla Cohen ’21 won the pole vault competition while freshman Selah Dungey won the high jump competition, and also scored in the 100m dash (tied for 6th), 200m dash (6th place) and the long jump (third place). Kavya Nivarthy ’21 won the 1600m run and ran incredible personal best (5:49.68), while Kira Lu ’20 placed in the top six (third and fourth). Sophomore Molly Cantillon won the 3200m run; Kavya and Kylie Bill ’21 also scored by placing third and fourth, respectively.
 
Sophomore Jordan McCray-Robinson scored second in the long jump, beating her personal best from last season by jumping 16 feet, 5 inches. Freshman Amaani Jetley scored in the 100, 200, long jump, and 4x400. Tess Kesler ’22 scored in the intermediate hurdles, high hurdles, and 4x400. Kira Lu ’20, Ivy Xie ’21 and Kristin Tsay ’21 all scored in the 800m run (third, fourth and sixth, respectively).
