Newark Academy Stymied by Bloomfield, Lose 18-3

Friday was a long day for Newark Academy, falling to Bloomfield 18-3. Bloomfield fired up the offense in the first inning, when #24 singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. In the bottom of the first inning, Newark Academy tied things up at one when Caitlin Clancy singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. After Bloomfield scored two runs in the top of the fourth, Newark Academy answered with two of their own. Bloomfield scored when #3 doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. Newark Academy then answered when an error scored two runs for Newark Academy. Bloomfield pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second an error scored one run for Bloomfield, Brianna Murray doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs, and Megan Carter singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. Bloomfield scored six runs in the fifth inning. Bloomfield's big inning was driven by an error on a ball put in play by Murray and #28, doubles by #11 and Katie Bretz, and a single by #3. Lexi Corio got the start for Bloomfield. She went five innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out seven and walking one. Lily Rosenberg started the game for Newark Academy. She lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing ten hits and 12 runs while striking out three. Olivia Mudrick threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Rosenberg led Newark Academy with two hits in three at bats. Bloomfield collected 16 hits. Bretz, Carter, Corio, and #3 all managed multiple hits for Bloomfield. Bretz went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Bloomfield in hits.
