Newark Academy to Welcome Jonathan Glynn ’69 as 246th Convocation Speaker

On September 4, 2019, Newark Academy students, faculty, administration, and staff will welcome Jonathan Glynn '69 as this year’s keynote speaker for Newark Academy’s 246th Convocation. Convocation is the formal ceremony celebrating the opening of the academic year.

The Founding Director of Wings Over Haiti, Jonathan is a philanthropist with a successful career in the real estate business, and an artist whose work has been exhibited nationally.
Jonathan gained recognition in 2010, when as a private pilot he responded to the devastating earthquake in Haiti by repeatedly flying his private plane from Sag Harbor, New York to Haiti to deliver medical supplies to remote areas. He was the sole source of anesthesia, antibiotics and surgical supplies for hundreds of amputees. His exploits were featured in The Washington Post, with the headline, “Angel for Haitian Children.”

He founded Wings of Haiti and proceeded to build a school in Port au Prince, which is now a resounding success. The school, run by residents of the city, has more than 200 children and is growing each year. Jonathan is committed to improving the lives of poor children and their families, with a current goal of raising $100,000 to open the Wings of Haiti’s second school in Ranquitte, a remote, hillside farming community without a school for its 400 children.

Jonathan has a bachelors in Fine Art from Tufts University and a Masters in Fine Art from Cranbrook Academy of Art.
