NA’s David Rodin ’23 Receives President’s Volunteer Service Award

Newark Academy’s David Rodin ’23 received the President’s Volunteer Service Award by the Corporation for National and Community Service. The award is given “in recognition and appreciated for their commitment to strengthen our nation and communities through volunteer service.” David qualified for the 2019 Silver President’s Volunteer Service Award.

This past summer David went on a service trip to the British Virgin Islands under an organization called Go Beyond. He and about 33 other people were on the trip, and were there for 17 days, traveling across to most of the islands doing service work.
"It was a lot of fun," David said. "Some of the work we did was reconstruct homes, build schools, do many beach clean-ups, teach the locals about recycling and how to swim, plant/measure the growth of mangroves and sea grass, capture and tag sea turtles, and a few other random deeds."

In total on that trip, he did 80 hours of service, making him eligible for the Silver Presidential Award. Currently, He is currently working on getting 20 more hours in so I can get the Gold Presidential Award.
