Senior Warren Sunada-Wong Is The 2020 NJSIAA Scholar-Athlete Award Recipient

Warren Sunada-Wong, a Newark Academy senior, is the recipient of the 2020 New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Scholar-Athlete Award. He is recognized for excelling in and outside of the classroom and will receive a certificate in his honor.

“Given the very challenging year we’ve all faced, it’s particularly important to recognize the academic achievements of New Jersey’s student-athletes,” said Colleen Maguire, who this month took over as the organization’s Chief Operating Officer.

“I’m certain each certificate recipient worked hard not only in the classroom and in competition, but also in overcoming the hurdles presented by the closing of all school buildings,” Maguire said. “Despite the difficulties, they all continued to pursue their goals and dreams.”

In 1994, the 75th Anniversary Year for the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, it inaugurated the AnnualScholar-Athlete Luncheon. The NJSIAA invites each member school to select one 12th grader as its scholar-athlete of the year. This year marks the NJSIAA’s 27th year in which scholar-athletes are being honored. Newark Academy's recent recipients include Samantha Keller, Cynthia Huang, and Anthony Giachin.
