Newark Academy Boys' Cross Country Wins Non-Public North Jersey Group B Title

For the third year in a row, Newark Academy’s boys’ cross country team ended the season as champions and did so in dominating fashion.

Newark Academy won the Non-Public, North Jersey Group B title, with all five runners placing in the top five. This allowed the team to to win over Morris Catholic and the rest of the six-team field at Oak Ridge Park in Clark, NJ.

The top-five portion of the Minutemen pack finished within 55 seconds of each other, with Andy Nagpal ’22 leading the way in 17:20, followed by Jack Ryan ’21 in 17:38, Matthew Malloy ’23 in 17:53, Luka Opacic Rodrigues ’24 in 18:08, and Maximilian Gorbaty ’22 in 18:15.
“One of our strongest points from the last few years, and one of our major goals every year is for the top seven to run as a pack, and they accomplished that today," Newark Academy coach Sarah Guelich told NJ.com. "You can’t get much closer than (the top five were today). I think that’s what has made us a strong competitor for the last couple of years, and I hope to continue that for the next few.”
Newark Academy won its second straight state Non-Public B title last year.
