Jose Antonio Vargas Visits For Newark Academy Global Speaker Series

In the classroom and beyond, Newark Academy strives to expose students to issues that shape the world. As part of Newark Academy’s Global Speaker Series, Jose Antonio Vargas, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Emmy-nominated filmmaker, and Tony-nominated producer that is a leading voice for the human right of immigrants, he founded the non-profit med and culture organization Define American, named one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies. The writer of the best-selling memoir, Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen, Jose spoke to the entire school over Zoom for an hour, before joining breakout sessions for the next hour and a half as part of the Feinberg Lecture.

Since 2008, NA’s Global Speaker Series Committee has brought distinguished individuals from around the world to address the NA community, enriching students' understanding and broadening their intellectual horizons. The Feinberg Multicultural Lecture was founded in 2001 through an endowment gift made by Peter Feinberg ‘78 and Margery Feinberg ‘78. The Feinberg Lecture was created to bring thought-provoking topics to the Newark Academy student body. An integral part of NA’s Global Speakers Series, the Lecture features experts and activists addressing a wide range of national and worldwide topics.
