Three NA Students Selected to All State Jazz Band

Three Newark Academy students were selected to the All State Jazz Band by the New Jersey Association for Jazz Education (NJAJE).

Saxophonist Ethan Lee '22, drummer Ben Schwartz '24 and trumpeter Jacob Tolentino '24 were among just 21 students in the state to be named to the band, making Newark Academy the most represented school on the list. Each student placed second in the state for their respective instruments.

“Some of the finest young jazz musicians in New Jersey auditioned for the NJAJE All State Band and only a handful were selected,” said Jazz Director Julius Tolentino.

The All State Band will record a virtual performance this year.

The NJAJE aims to promote jazz music and performance across all levels of the New Jersey educational system by providing performance opportunities to the music students of New Jersey through the sponsorship of various festivals and Honor Ensembles.
