Chameleon Garners Essentially Ellington Accolades

Newark Academy’s jazz band, Chameleon, earned several accolades at the 27th annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival from May 5-7 at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Competing among the top 15 jazz bands in the country, Newark Academy received the Outstanding Rhythm Section and Outstanding Trumpet Section awards.

This was Newark Academy’s sixth appearance as a finalist at Essentially Ellington, chosen by a panel of judges comprised of distinguished jazz musicians and historians. Through Essentially Ellington, students were immersed in mentoring, jam sessions and workshops, culminating into the competition.
