NA String Players' Accomplishments

All of the Newark Academy string players who auditioned for the New Jersey Music Educators Association All State Orchestra Auditions were accepted and a number of students received additional honors.
11th-grade volinist, Rebecca Slater has won an audition to concertmaster in the All Eastern Orchestra. With the highest score among musicians from 11 states, she will be first chair when performing with this elite Orchestra on April 8 in Atlantic City. In addition, she was accepted into the 2017 New Jersey All State High School Orchestra and will serve as assistant concertmaster.

9th-grade violinist Christopher Lin, 8th-grade violinists Kristin Tsay and Pravan Chakravarthy, and 8th-grade cellist Elaine Choy will play in the New Jersey All State Intermediate Orchestra.

In order to qualify for a state audition, musicians must pass a rigorous audition involving prepared solos and scales as well as sight-reading at the regional level.
