May Day? Law Day!

NA Middle School celebrates with mock court and cake.
Law Day is a national day to celebrate the rule of law and its contributions to the freedoms Americans enjoy. Each year, Law Day events and programs are planned and carried out by bar associations, courts, and various educational entities around the country.

In honor of Law Day 2015, NA sixth-grade students participated in a one-day mock trial, conducted by area attorneys and law enforcement.

This year, the theme for Law Day nationwide is the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta. NA Middle School Law Day participants celebrated with a birthday cake. President Obama issued a proclamation in which he honored this year’s Magna Carta theme:

“This Law Day, we celebrate a milestone in the extraordinary history of the rule of law by marking the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta...The ideals of the Magna Carta inspired America's forefathers to define and protect many of the rights expressed in our founding documents, which we continue to cherish today.”

About Law Day
Envisioned in 1957 by then-American Bar Association President Charles S. Rhyne as a national day to recognize the country’s commitment to the rule of law, Law Day was established by President Dwight Eisenhower the following year. Congress issued a joint resolution in 1961 designating May 1 as the official Law Day. Many civic groups and bar associations celebrate with a month of programs, presentations and events.
