NA-X Alibis and Algebra Grades 7-10

Dates: July 6th - July 10th (1 week course)
Times: 1:00 - 3:00pm
Tuition: $325

In this immersive, true-crime-style intensive, students step into the role of Lead Forensic Mathematicians to crack the case using the only evidence that never lies: the numbers.

Over the course of five days, students will transform the classroom into a forensic lab. They will master complex algebraic and geometric concepts by applying them to real-world investigative challenges, including:

  • Geometric Reconstruction: Using scale drawings, ratios, and the Pythagorean Theorem to map the crime scene and locate hidden evidence.
  • Biological Backtracking: Applying Newton’s Law of Cooling and exponential decay models to determine a precise Time of Death.
  • Ballistic Parabolas: Utilizing quadratic equations and projectile motion to retrace the trajectory of falling objects and suspect positions.
  • Digital Cryptography: Mastering the logic of cryptographic systems and modular arithmetic to breach encrypted files..
  • Statistical Conviction: Using combinatorics and probability to evaluate DNA matches and ensure the evidence is strong enough to secure a "guilty" verdict.

By the end of the camp, students will have moved beyond "solving for “x” to understanding how mathematical models describe physical reality. Knowledge of foundational algebra skills recommended
