September Artist: Susan Holford

Works by artist Susan Holford in the McGraw Gallery.
Artist Susan Holford's work was on display in the McGraw Gallery in September.

The exhibit, entitled Collaboration, is a collection of pieces made up of mixed media, paintings and paper sculptures that have an elegant and transcendent quality. Found objects, such as bits of paper, old photographs and puzzle pieces, are combined with more traditional art materials to produce a nostalgic, mystical and intimate atmosphere in the work.

Holford views the materials as partners in the artistic process. “Surrounded by all of these ‘collaborators,’ the journey of bringing together the vision of a piece becomes tangible.” she said.

Susan Holford has exhibited extensively, received numerous awards and has work in a number of private collections in the U.S, Saudi Arabia and in the U.K. She has also put her talents to work helping others. Holford has worked as an art instructor and as an art therapist at Morristown Medical Center. Most recently, she lent her talents to Creative Heartwork, a program designed to improve the lives of medically, emotionally and physically traumatized children and adults through arts and holistic therapies.
