Our very own Academy Voices performed at Carnegie Hall as part of The American Christmas Carol benefit concert on November 30.

NA student vocalists joined four other high school ensembles on the Carnegie stage to perform as one 190-student Mega Choir. Backing up some of the biggest singer/song-writers to date and sharing the stage with Sarah McLachlan, Loreena McKennit, Andrea Coor, Hayley Westenra, and even Kate Winslet was an amazing and rare opportunity, indeed.

“There was one very clear message that was conveyed by each artist,” said Viraj Lal, Choral Director. “‘Singing connects us with something bigger than we are.’”

The concert proceeds will benefit the Golden Hat Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating barriers for people with autism. Helping to raise awareness for the organization added more significance and meaning to the experience for NA students. “We felt as though we’d touched and inspired people we don’t even know by raising our voices in song.” Lal said.
