Community Service

The purpose of the Community Service Program at Newark Academy is:
  • to foster a generosity of spirit by developing empathy, cultural competence, and self-awareness.
  • to encourage critical assessment of systematic inequalities and design creative solutions.
  • to engage in collaborative work with the communities where we reside and the larger world.

The Office of Community Service oversees all service-learning, community service and community engagement programming in Grades 6-12. Throughout the school year, the office sponsors a wide variety of opportunities, in conjunction with various stakeholders of the Newark Academy Community, centered on a yearly theme. Students are also encouraged to seek out opportunities for engagement in their local communities and in areas of their particular interest  with a focus on how to best use their time, talent and resources to address inequalities and serve members of local, regional, national and global communities.
