NA’s 15th Annual FOP Color Run a Success

With more than 40 student volunteers, approximately 100 runners, walkers and bikers, and nearly 32 sponsors, the School Council raised a gross amount of $13,311 for fibrodysplasia ossificans progressive (FOP) research and awareness at Newark Academy’s 15th Annual 5K Color Run.

In addition to supporting Dr. Kaplan and his FOP research team at the University of Pennsylvania, the funds will be used to shoot a documentary on FOP. The aim of the film is to encourage global understanding of this rare genetic disorder and identify more individuals living with FOP. With nearly 30 clinical trials worldwide, greater participation is needed to develop more major breakthroughs.

It was encouraging to have the support of more than 40 alumni, many of whom were classmates of Ian Cali ’08, who has FOP, and his brother Jason Cali ’05. Coming full circle, it was great to have such strong enthusiasm from alumni who ran in the first run 15 years ago.
