Sophia Ludtke ’20 named Project Green Challenge Finalist

Inspired by the way Project Green Challenge (PGC) brings people from around the world who share a common concern for the environment, Sophia Ludkte ’20 was one of 6,000 students to submit to the challenge and was recently named one of 13 finalists.

Throughout the month of October, Sophia did a daily challenge based on different environmental themes ranging from environmental justice, to biodiversity, to renewable energy.

“From making videos, to giving presentations, to writing newspaper articles and poetry, each challenge pushed me to think about environmental issues in a new context,” Sophia said.

Sophia took the June Term class on Human Rights and Activism her freshman year, where she learned about Garden Spires, a housing complex currently located in Newark. From there, she became very interested in how issues related to environmental justice affect our local communities, which is something she discussed throughout her PGC entries. Sophia credits NA for encouraging her to explore and remain curious about big-picture issues.

“I am so grateful to have the opportunity to travel to California for the finals [from November 15-18],” Sophia said. “I’m really looking forward to learning from all the very inspiring speakers and other finalists and just being surrounded by people who all feel equally as passionate about the environment.
