Three Newark Academy Students are National Merit Semifinalists

Newark Academy is proud to announce that three current seniors were named 2024 National Merit Semifinalists, joining 16,000 students across the country.
The semifinalists include Evan "Sebastian" Dias-Sotiriou, Meghan Lai and Vincent Luo. These students will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.
 
NA’s three semifinalists were among the 30 seniors who were named National Merit Commended Scholars for placing among the top 50,000 students who entered the competition. Additional Commended Scholars include Mehmet Acikel, Arsema Berhanu, Nathanial Choi, Avery Cohen, Damian Correa, Andrew Crawford, Andrew Deng, Noah Elwyn, Vanessa Fang, Sean Gilsenan, Katherine Guo, Kevin Ha, Nicholas Hacking, Shreyas Hariharan, Abigail Herbert, Alexa Jacob, Aaron Li, Aiden Lu, Owen Markowitz, Svanfridur Mura, Olivia Palker, Neil Pandey, Jayan Shah, Cadmus Sheffield, Nicholas Sikellis, David Silliman, Eva Sirichenko, Suved Wali, Brian Yun and Julia Zheng.
 
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition that recognizes and provides scholarships to students. Each year, approximately 1.3 million high school juniors take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) to enter the program.
