Chameleon Received Awards at Essentially Ellington
Newark Academy's select big band "Chameleon" took home ten awards at the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival, which took place May 11-13, 2017 at Lincoln Center.
Chameleon received an Honorable Mention, which is the equivalent of fourth place. (The top three bands were all performing arts schools or all-star programs.)
The 10 awards included:
- Two Section Awards - Outstanding Rhythm Section and Outstanding Saxophone Section.
- Two Honorable Mention Soloist Awards - Reid Christmann ’18 and Samantha Powell ’19.
- Six Outstanding Soloist Awards - Charles Pan ’18, Allen Zhu ’18, Alan Lin ’19, Cosimo Fabrizio ’18, Shaan Pandiri ’17 and Teddy McGraw ’20.
