Born in the small seaside hamlet of Ipswich, Mass., Elizabeth attended Shore Country Day School in Beverly, MA; St. Paul's School in Concord, NH; Middlebury College, where she graduated with Honors in English in 1994; Dartmouth College, where she completed a Master's degree and thesis on "Femininity and Disease in Three Mid-Victorian Novels" in 2002; and Drew University, where she will complete her D.Litt. in 2005. She began teaching at Montessori Children's House in Morristown, NJ, upon graduating from college. She taught music, drama, and reading in kindergarten for two years, and 3rd-5th grade in one classroom for one year. She began teaching at Newark Academy nine years ago, and has taught grades 7,9, and 10-12 creative writing and AP/IB English. In her summers, she has taught drama to grades 1-8, and English at NA's summer session. She hopes to present a collection of her poetry as her dissertation at Drew. Both of her parents and her great-grandfather were teachers, and her younger brother is a veteran of the conflict in Iraq as a captain in the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division. After beginning his teaching career in his native England, followed by a stint in Greece, Neil joined Newark Academy in 2002 as English Department Chair. He led the Department for 14 years through a shift to a more contemporary, representative curriculum. He took a sabbatical year in 2011-12 teaching at SYA Italy. He ran the IB Program for 17 years, tripling the size of the Diploma cohort. He is a veteran Immersion trip leader, taking students camping in the South West every year. At different times, he has advised the Minuteman Newspaper, Kiva Club, and Cricket Club. He is currently teaching American Literature and pursuing a Certificate in Corporate Sustainability from Harvard Extension School.
