Eleven Newark Academy Students are National Merit Semifinalists

Newark Academy is proud to announce that 11 current seniors were named 2022 National Merit Semifinalists, joining 16,000 students across the country.

The semifinalists include Rahul Arora, Juliet Bu, Evan Bulan, Alyssa Cai, Nitya Gupta, Luka Loncar, Pierce Malloy, Matthew Susilo, Yavan Vyas, Ian Zhang and Olga Zhukova. These students will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered next spring.
NA’s 11 semifinalists were among the 45 seniors who were named National Merit Commended Scholars for placing among the top 50,000 students who entered the competition. Additional Commended Scholars include Alexander Atlas, Aakriti Caprihan, Kaitlyn Chee, Marina Chernin, William Crall, Carmen Dai, Dina Drogin, Silas Epstein, Wesley Freeman, Harold Fullilove, Ben Glickman, Marshall Graves, Navyaa Jain, Miranda Jiang, Arjun Khanna, Elena Koestel, Jason Kogan, Marie Kung, Charles Kunzweiler, Jasper Lee, Julia Li, Pranay Maddali, Miles Mu, Evan Samaro, Ashna Shah, Lauren Siegel, Matthew Teytel, William Tsai, Abhishek Varadarajan, Joelynn Wang, Claire Waskow, Andrea Yan, Ashton Zhao and Jayden Zhou.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition that recognizes and provides scholarships to students. Each year, approximately 1.5 million high school students take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) to enter the program.
